Workwear of the future is smart and environmentally friendly

Wise Workwear is a two-year product dvelopment project launched by Foxa in autumn 2019. The project has four subprojects: solar cell textiles, functional intelligence textiles, greener textiles and textile recycling. Wise Workwear is partially funded by Business Finland.

The solar cell textile subproject is part of a larger joint effort involving Aalto University's Departments of Design and Applied Physics and business partners Lindström Oy and Haltian Oy. The idea is to develop a product that combines textile with solar cells. Such a garment would harvest solar energy that could then be used for smart applications, making the carrying of a separate batteries redundant. Aalto University has researched the technology required for solar cell textiles and it looks promising. Solar cell textiles have excellent potential in workwear, military wear and outdoor clothing.

In addition to smart textiles with solar cell technology, the Wise Workwear project sheds light on ecological textiles and textile recycling in workwear production. The aim is to have future workwear be made of textiles that are as environmentally friendly as possible and/or made from recycled materials. In addition, there is a constant strive towards more environmentally friendly workwear fabrics.
