The results of Foxa's Tervetekstiili project: a diverse range of high-quality fabrics for the health care industry

During 2018, Foxa implemented an extensive product development project which examined the textile products and fabrics used in the health care industry as well as replacement materials. The project identified development needs regarding existing materials and listened to users' wishes concerning new types of materials.

As as result of the Tervetekstiili project, Foxa is now compiling a comprehensive and competitive range of health care industry textiles and knitted fabrics for a wide range of applications. Klinikka C2 is a microfiber fabric that is popular among health care industry professionals and it has now been joined by stretch fabrics made from micropolyester fibre. The new antistatic, flexible fabric drapes well and improves the comfort and fit of the workwear. In addition, new materials that not only improve the comfort and care of the fabric, but also look good, are available for medical tunics. The range also includes knitted fabrics made from recycled polyester, which is suitable material for e.g. nurses' T-shirts.

For patient clothing Foxa offers knitted fabrics that contain elastane, which helps them to retain their shape and remain soft despite repeated washes. Also new are moisture protectors for patients, ranging fro thin pillowcase protectors to thick mattress protectors.

The Tervetekstiili project also considered the environmental aspect of fabrics and paid particular attention to recycling. For example, disposable protective materials used in operating theatres create significant amounts of various types of waste. As an alternative, Foxa offers surgical textiles that meet demanding standards for e.g. surgical gowns and drapes.

The project also examined how to combine textiles with measurement technology. A result of this investigation was the silver-coated knitted fabric now available in our range, which helps the patient's gown to act as a user-friendly sensor for measuring the patient's pulse, sleep quality, or muscle activity, for example.

Foxa is still developing its range of health care industry fabrics in accordance with customers' wishes and their user experiences. Product Development Manager Heli Sukki is reponsible for developing the range.
